The prospects of job and income growth versus the peril of falling off a fiscal cliff in post-election 2013 will be the focus of the Darla Moore School of Business’ 32nd annual Economic Outlook Conference (EOC), Wednesday, Dec. 12.

The Economic Outlook Conference, the state's premiere economic event, runs from 11:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. in USC's Capstone House on Barnwell Street.

Each year the annual conference at the University of South Carolina draws business leaders from around the state who are eager to hear the economic forecast for the coming year from Moore School economists, as well as perspectives from business and government leaders on the state's economic growth.

This year's panel discussion, titled "Startup State: Innovation and entrepreneurial activity in South Carolina," will feature Dirk Brown, director of USC's Faber Entrepreneurship Center; William Kirkland, entrepreneur-in-residence at the USC/Columbia Technology Incubator; and Bill Mahoney, CEO of the S.C. Research Authority.

Edward Sellers, board chairman of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and chairman of the Palmetto Institute, will moderate the panel and speak at 3 p.m. to conclude the conference.

Moore School Director of Research Doug Woodward and research associate Joey Von Nessen, along with John Connaughton, Babson Capital Professor of Financial Economics at UNC Charlotte, will present their economic forecast from 1-2 p.m., and Jonathan Zucker, president of InterTech Group, will deliver the keynote address. His talk, titled "Startup Nation: Israel's Surprising Economic Success in the Face of Adversity," is set for 2:15 p.m.

Registration is $75 and includes a networking hour from noon – 1 p.m. with heavy hors d’oeuvres in the Top of Carolina, the revolving restaurant on the top floor of Capstone House. Advance registration is required and can be done online. Questions should be directed to Tina Poindexter at 803-777-7311 or via e-mail at events@moore.sc.edu.

This year's EOC is sponsored by South Carolina Bank and Trust with support by the S.C. Research Authority and BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina.
